Observing bricks and texture. For this project I worked from a picture that I took of an old brick wall.
During this project I learned a lot of new techniques and uses of materials including using palette knives and joint compound.
I built out from the canvas using joint compound to create brick, and added color and texture using acrylic paint and sand. As the joint compound dried it started to crack and chip off of the canvas, but with a little time and effort and lots of gesso I managed to make it hold together. It left me with a nice cracked texture that really added to the idea of old, cracked brick. This project got me out of my comfort zone with materials and really enjoyed it.
